Letter Writing Prompts

Since April is National Letter Writing Month, I thought I would share ideas for letter writing prompts to use in this age of digital communication. If you are looking for additional resources, these are are a few of my favorites from my research: ThinkMakeShare Blog and Write On.

Letter Writing Prompts

Just for Adults

  1. Compliment a coworker.
  2. Thank a mentor.
  3. Thank a first responder and/or a member of the armed services.
  4. Send a note to your child’s teacher.
  5. Wish someone good luck.
  6. Let someone know you are thinking of them.
  7. Write to your child and let them know how much you love them.
  8. Belated thank you.
  9. Write a note to your future self.

Just for Kids

Some of the above ideas work great for kids as well. But here are a few more just for kids.

  1. Send a letter to mom or dad telling them how much you love them.
  2. Say “hi” to your grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins.
  3. Send a note to your teacher.
  4. Find a pen pal.
  5. Wish someone good luck.
  6. Thank your coach.
  7. Wish your friend(s) happy birthday.
